Bismarck Palm

10 Oct

The Bismarck Palm (Bismarckia nobilis) is certainly a noble-looking landscape specimen. It is native to Madagascar but grows in tropical to temperature climates, tolerating brief periods of frost. The silver blue foliage is the noticeable feature and the palm can grow to over 70 feet with 10 feet diameter fronds, requiring a roomy landscape. They thrive in plentiful rainfall but can tolerate some drought.

These magnificent palms can be seen in many Anna Maria Island landscapes and are popular exhibition palms on estates of Longboat Key.
